It’s been a crazy fortnight or so here at Stan! Central. All of my December freelance assignments have due dates before the middle of the month So I’ve been trying to fit a whole month of work into two weeks … and it turns out to be a slightly busier than average month after all.
I’m closing in on only stretching a couple of the deadlines (as opposed to actually shattering them) … and today was KEY in making that happen. I needed to finish and turn over TWO writing assignments — one a localization for a manga script, the other a second draft of an adventure for the Warriors Adventure Game. Of course, the real TRICK was to make sure that on both projects I maintained my usual level of quality and attention to detail.
I’m here, still half an hour shy of midnight, to say that I THINK I did it.
*knock on wood*
I mean, I DEFINITELY turned both projects over. I THINK I maintained my quality standards. (The editors will SURELY let me know if I’m wrong on that second bit.)
I still have an assignment left to finish … and I’m planning on spending the weekend doing that. But even though it’s a bit behind its intended schedule, I’ve stayed in touch with the client and they seem to be okay (if not wildly happy) with the current level of tardiness.
So that’s where things stand. Oh, except that I have to drive up north of L.A. tomorrow … through traffic … in what is supposed to be heavy rain … to meet with a prospective new client. I’m excited about the possible work … less so about the drive. Or the drive home (which promises to be during Friday rush hour).
By the time the end of year holidays roll around, I think I’ll TRULY have earned a week or two off.
