5% of an Origins Award

on June 28th, 2009

This weekend the Origins Game Faire was being held in Columbus, OH … and that means the annual Origins Awards were handed out last night. And, though I’m always curious as to what gets the nod, it turns out that I had a more PERSONAL reason to pay attention.

Those of you who for some reason pay any real attention to my ramblings may remember that last year I wrote the script for a two-part Dragonlance story that was published in Worlds of Dungeons & Dragons comic form Devil’s Due Press. Well, they were ALSO collected in a trade paperback and that volume was nominated in the Best Fiction category. Not only that, it WON!

Congratulations to all the other writers and artists who had work in that book (Volume 2 in the series, in case you want to go looking for it) … but mostly to James Lowder, the editor who put the series together and invited me to do my first professional comicbook writing.

As it turns out, Jim was ALSO the editor on the last project where I won a small percentage of an Origins Award … Hobby Games: the 100 Best (which earned me 1% of a Calliope statuette). So my plan is to do at least one project with Jim every year and by the time I retire I should have earned a WHOLE award along the way.
