Today would have been Theodor Geisel’s 105th birthday. Without him, Horton would not have heard any Whos, the Grinch’s heart would never have grown three sizes in a single day, and NO ONE would know the pleasure of green eggs and ham.
When I was in first grade, we had an assignment to write a letter to a famous person, and I chose Dr. Seuss. To my infinite excitement … he (and his cat) actually wrote back. I think my parents still have that letter somewhere. I’ll have to look for it the next time I’m back home for a visit.
