Bent on total word domination
Yesterday, I saw an interesting type of “year in review” post where a friend of mine copied and presented the first sentence from the first post in every month of 2008. I thought that was kinda cool and figured I’d try it, too.
This year I’ve been A LOT more active on this journal … making a POINT of writing something just about every day. In fact, if I did the math correctly a few weeks ago, I will have posted SOME kind of message here on all but 48 days in 2008. That’s not really any kind of major accomplishment (particularly when I think about the number of posts that were basically just links to something else … and not any actual thoughts or writing of my own) … but it does make me feel like I achieved a minor goal that I’d set for myself. And it has helped me to feel comfortable setting some new, more difficult goals for myself in the coming year. But I’ll talk about those tomorrow.
In the meanwhile, based on a meme borrowed from The Amazing BLAND Girl, here are twelve sentences that may or may not say something profound about 2008 in the Stan!-plex.
JAN: The calendars still hanging around my apartment not withstanding, 2007 is now gone and 2008 is revving its engine full throttle.
FEB: Yes, it’s here … February 1st … Hourly Comic Day!
MAR: Today would be Theodor Geisel’s 104th birthday, if he were still with us.
APR: Ah, April Fool’s Day!
MAY: Three months after the movie’s release (and a couple of weeks after the DVD’s, too) the soundtrack for Cloverfield was finally made available through iTunes this wee
JUN: You’d think as I get older I’d get USED to the fleeting passage of time.
JUL: I have to say, after 8 weeks of pushing my writing muscles as hard as I’ve done in several years, I’m finally beginning to feel the strain.
AUG: Before the whole week gets away from me, I think I’d better do my wrap up on Comic Con.
SEP: For those of you who don’t watch Top Chef (or, for the geekier crowd, don’t remember her appearance as “Kaitaama” on the season 2 episode of Enterprise, “Precious Cargo”), Padma Lakshmi is far and away the sexiest woman in “Foodie” culture.
OCT: I may have flipped the calendar over to October today … but the weather is more like August!
NOV: After spending most of Halloween evening working on The Littlest Shoggoth, I decided to knock off a little early and watch something seasonal.
DEC: When I first saw the following video of an oddly Cthulhoid-looking rare “elbowed” squid, I thought there was a really good chance it was a hoax.
I hope everyone reading this has a very happy New Year’s Eve, and that 2009 is a bigger and better year for us all. Thank you for taking the time to come and visit my little corner of the Internet … I really do appreciate everyone who spares a few brain cells to care what I might have to say at any given time.
